In 2006, a Scarborough-based company with 2 staff members began providing occupational, physical and speech therapy services to Greater Portland geriatric patients. Coastal Consulting Services were delivered strictly via home or retirement community visits for a while, because — as Nathalie Descheneaux, Occupational Therapist and Owner explained — “Our mission is to promote clients’ choices and independence through the convenience of being seen at home without the worry of transportation. Besides, home is the perfect environment to work on functional skills, such as walking to the mailbox, preparing breakfast, getting in and out of bed, or showering.” One of their specialized services is Vital Stim Certified Speech therapy for clients with dysphasia.
To meet the increasing demand for these services over the years, the business has grown to 20 staff members, has just been changed to Coastal Rehab, and has just relocated to a building they purchased in Cape Elizabeth. This allowed them to become a Medicare Part B provider, meaning, “Now we can see patients in our clinic or in their homes, regardless of being homebound or not. We bill insurance and we also offer private-pay billing.” In 2011, they reached a milestone as they treated their 1,000th patient.
